My husband and I both celebrate our birthday’s this week.  So I have chosen my favorite star, originally named “Tangled Stars”.  I reworked the block to make it simpler to paper-piece.

The block for this week is named August Star.

To honor the city of Philadelphia, where the Liberty Bell first rang for Freedom, I have created a variation of an old block call Philadelphia Pavement.  This block was first published by Ruth Finley in “Old Patchwork Quilts and the Women Who made Them” 1929.  for full details see Barbara Brackman’s Block Base for EQ.

The Dog Days of Summer have arrived with Sirius the “Dog Star”.

So,  to beat the heat, this week’s star block is  named “The Dog Star Block”,   it is a variation of the traditional “New Star block”.

World Cup Soccer Star Block

World Cup Soccer Star Block #27 - Freedom Star Colors

Wow! What a great World Cup Soccer Tournament.  Here’s to all the Soccer Stars from all over the World. I have designed this block in two color ways, one for the USA in the Freedom Stars Colors, and for the winners, Spain, in their team colors.

This block is a variation of the traditional “World Without End” block and seemed like an appropriate block to honor all of the great soccer stars that we watched this month.

This block is easily made with just four paper-pieced section and directions are given for how to make partial seams to complete the block.
